AVIATION – This year, the Paris Air Show saw tens of billions of euros in commercial aircraft sales. What about lesser-known aviation players? We went to meet two French manufacturers of professional drones, and asked them in particular to what extent they were ready to collaborate with the police in order to provide them with surveillance tools.
As a reminder, a decree on the use of drones equipped with cameras by the security forces, in particular for maintaining order or border surveillance, was published Thursday, April 20, in the Official Journal.
The text authorizes the use of drones by the police, gendarmes, customs or military, for “the prevention of attacks on the safety of persons and property in particularly exposed places”pour “security of gatherings on public roads, as well as in “support” agents “on the ground”, “with a view to enabling them to maintain or restore public order”.
Measures that have raised concerns among defenders of public freedoms and privacy, including the League of Human Rights. On May 24, the Council of State nevertheless refused to suspend the government decree.
