488 people were evacuated, according to the prefecture, then 395 of them were transferred on board buses to centers in Île-de-France and 95 other people directed to regional reception “airlocks”, in particular at Marseilles (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Bordeaux (Gironde). This operation was praised by Alexandra Cordebard, mayor of the 10th arrondissement.

In these places of accommodation, people “benefit with their agreement from an assessment of their administrative situation, as well as social and health support”, explains the prefecture, which recalls that 4,301 people have been sheltered. since the beginning of the year.

These people lived in “unworthy and extremely degraded conditions” in this informal camp made up of “mattresses, blankets, often without tents”, located under the Stalingrad skytrain station, in the north-east of Paris, explained Paul Alauzy , responsible for patrols for Doctors of the World, present on site.

Originating from Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa

They are mainly Afghan nationals, as well as people from sub-Saharan Africa, he continued, explaining that others (20 people according to the prefecture) had “chosen to stay” after having already benefited from this type of operation “then having been returned to the street”. “How many will return to the streets this evening or in the next few days? also wondered the Access to Law collective, which brings together several associations working with exiles on the street.

On the social network X, formerly Twitter, the collective estimated the number of evacuees at 350 and published a photo in which we see men, bags on their backs, queuing under the aerial metro, supervised by the forces of the order to board the bus.

At the end of August, the Ile-de-France prefecture indicated that it had already carried out 24 operations of this type in 2023for 3783 people treated.
