(Keystone-SDA) In Paris, the mill wheels of the Moulin Rouge, one of the landmarks of the French capital, collapsed on Thursday night. The Paris fire department said no one was injured in the accident.
It is still unclear how the famous Paris variety theater collapsed. It was also said that there was no longer any risk of collapse.
In images distributed in online media, the mill wheels could be seen lying in their entirety on the sidewalk in front of the theater. Several mill wheels were therefore slightly curved.
The revue theater is a tourist magnet. It opened in 1889 – the same year that the Eiffel Tower was completed in the French capital. Among other things, the Moulin Rouge is considered the birthplace of the cancan dance.
