“The decision regarding the Sahara is a good decision, because there is still a Moroccan history,” declared Ms. Hidalgo, Thursday evening, on the LCI channel.

“Pedro Sanchez had taken this path, and it was more complicated for Spain to take this path and for the Spanish left. I think it’s a good thing. In any case, I think that this opens a dialogue with Morocco again and I am very happy about it,” she rejoiced.

The Mayor of Paris also highlighted the excellent level of cooperation with her Moroccan counterparts.

“I chair the international association of French-speaking mayors and I am fortunate to have fellow Moroccan mayors in Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech with whom I work in a truly exceptional way. So I am very happy that we are opening a new chapter with Morocco,” she said.

In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, it is recalled that the French President, Mr. Emmanuel Macron officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty.”

The French Head of State assures His Majesty the King, in this same message, of “the inviolability of the French position on this national security issue for the Kingdom” and that his country “intends to act in accordance with this position at the national and international levels”.
