Paris-Nice: a car in the wrong direction almost hits the riders

by time news

More fear than harm for the Paris-Nice peloton. While the riders were halfway through this 8th stage, in the descent from Berre-les-Alpes, several participants experienced a big fright. At the heart of a bend, a small car presented itself in the opposite direction of the race.

Fortunately, the group of about ten cyclists was able to dodge the vehicle, which did not hit anyone. A car which, obviously, was not supposed to be able to circulate at this point of the course. The accident was avoided, and the race was not interrupted.

A triumph for Pogacar

At the end of the stage, it was finally the leader Tadej Pogacar (UAE) who won to finish the Race to the Sun in style. The Slovenian claimed his third stage victory of the week, pointing to the finish line 33 seconds ahead of David Gaudu, Jonas Vingegaard and Simon Yates.

What a perfect conclusion to his dream Paris-Nice, he who flew over this 2023 edition, and won the legendary stage race for the first time. Behind, Frenchman David Gaudu finished second overall, and became the first tricolor on the podium since Arthur Vichot in 2014.
