Mohali: 8 students of Chandigarh University (CU) have qualified for Paris Olympics 2024. The event will be held in France from 26 July to 11 August 2024. The players who have qualified for Paris Olympics 2024 are Bhajan Kaur (archery), Arjun Babuta (shooting), Sanjay (hockey), Ritika Hooda (wrestling), Akashdeep Singh (race walking), Palak Kohli (para-badminton), Yash (kayaking), and Aruna Tanwar (taekwondo). Bhajan Kaur secured her place in the Paris Olympics by winning the gold medal at the World Cup Qualifier held in Antalya, Turkey. By achieving this feat, she ensured her place in the Indian archery team. Kaur will represent India at the Paris Olympics under the individual quota, which is allotted to archers from the top 8 performing countries in the world.

Bhajan Kaur is a BA student

18-year-old Bhajan Kaur is a BA student at CU. She won the gold medal by defeating Iran’s Mobina Fallah 6-2 (28-26, 29-29, 29-26, 29-29). Earlier in the semi-finals, Bhajan Kaur defeated world number 10 Moldovan archer Alexandra Mirca 6-2 (27-26, 28-27, 26-27, 27-26). Bhajan Kaur won bronze medals at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Paris, France and the World Archery Youth Championship in Limerick in 2023. She also participated in the Archery World Cup stage held in Medellin, Colombia (2023). Kaur has made not only the university but the country proud by winning the gold medal in the 41st NTPC Senior Recurve National Championship 2022. He has also previously won one gold and two silver medals at the Asian Grand Prix Circuit (2022).

Ritika received honor from PM

Arjun Babuta, who is pursuing MBA from CU, has qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 in shooting. Arjun has won a silver medal in the ISSF World Cup Shooting (10m Air Rifle Mixed Team) 2024. Yash, a student of CU, has qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 in the kayaking event in water sports. Similarly, B.Ed student Ritika Hooda has also qualified for these prestigious games. Earlier, Ritika won a gold medal in the Under-23 Asian Championship 2022. Hooda is India’s wrestling world champion and the second Indian to win a gold medal in the Under-23 category at the World Wrestling Championship. Due to her outstanding achievement in the field of sports, she also had the honor of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

These two players have also got a place
Another CU student, Akashdeep Singh, has also made it to the Indian contingent at the Olympic Games. He is pursuing BPEd. Akashdeep, a resident of Barnala, Punjab, won the gold medal in the men’s 20 km race walking event at the Asian Race Walking Championship held in Nomi, Japan in 2023. Sanjay, who was part of the Indian hockey team at the Paris Olympics, is a BA student from CU. He was part of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Asian Games in 2023.

These players were selected for Paralympics

Besides, two more CU alumni, Indian Para Taekwondo athlete Aruna Tanwar, currently ranked world No. 4 in W-49kg, K43 event category (athletes with severe injury or disability in both arms below the elbow) and badminton player Palak Kohli, who won a bronze medal at the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships, will also be showcasing their sporting skills at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
