But why were such images taken in the first place? The answer is simple: Olympic rules state that players are not allowed to show facial expressions or wear make-up on their faces. It is a rule that has stood for many years.
The players must stand in front of a white background and take the pictures themselves or send them to the people responsible. The same rule applies to on-site media professionals. The photos taken by the 20 Minutes editors are also like “mugshots” of the stars.
