This is a bullet in the heart of those who want to profit from your fame. Turkish Olympic shooter Yusuf Dikeç has filed an application with the Turkish Intellectual Property Institute to protect the use of the money of the firm that made it famous in the Paris 2024 Games, his coach told AFP on Monday.

“After being informed of several trademark registration initiatives that were made without the knowledge of Yusuf Dikeç, we submitted an application about a week ago (…). So we reject other requests,” the athlete’s coach, Erdinç Bilgili, told AFP.

Yusuf Dikeç, who won the silver medal in the 10m shooting event, became a world star after pictures showing him shooting almost flawlessly, left hand in his pocket, without goggles or helmet, made a tower of television and social networks.

Many athletes have copied his position after winning a medal at the Olympics, such as the Swedish pole star Armand Duplantis. Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson repeated his feat on Sunday by celebrating a goal in the English Premier League.

Derivatives already on sale

Several products, including t-shirts, mugs and cell phone cases, featuring his stance that seems to combine nonchalance and self-confidence, have already gone on sale, Turkish public news channel reported TRT Haber.

Contacted by AFP, TürkPatent, the Turkish institution responsible for the protection of intellectual property, did not immediately respond.

“Some people think that my hand in my pocket is a sign of pride. I only do it to make myself more stable. We don’t have to look any further,” Yusuf Dikeç assured in early August in an interview with AFP.
