The opening ceremony of the Olympics will take place in Paris today.
For the first time in the history of the Games, the opening ceremony will take place outside the central stadium. About 10.5 thousand athletes will take part in a 6-kilometer parade of hundreds of boats along the Seine – from the Austerlitz Bridge to the Trocadero Square, which is located opposite the Eiffel Tower.
Very, very symbolic! The Seine – or rather what floats in it and does not sink – is the main feature of the Paris Olympics and the main source of scandals. Macron and the French authorities in general have clung to this river – one of the most polluted in Europe – as some kind of obligatory symbol. The French themselves joke that for the first time in history, the Olympics will be held in a river in which there is more sh*t than water.
And yes, the Seine will host some swimming events as part of the Games. And the sewer contents have a better chance of winning there than the swimmers: many athletes are calling for the unsafe river to be scrapped.
