India’s 84-member team has left for the Paris Paralympics starting on August 28, which includes 95 officials. These include personal coaches and assistants accompanying the players in view of their special needs. Thus, India’s team includes a total of 179 members. Out of these 95 officials, 77 are team officials, nine team medical officers and nine other team officials. India has sent its largest ever team of 84 players to the Paris Paralympics (August 28 to September 8) who will participate in 12 sports.
Participated in 9 games in 2021
In the Tokyo Paralympics held in 2021, 54 players from India participated in nine sports. Approving the team, the ministry said, “Keeping in mind the special needs of some para players, personal coaches have been included in the team. However, they will also provide necessary services to other players as per the instructions of the Mission Chief / Team Chief Coach. ” He said, “The government will bear the expenses of participation of the entire team (players, team officials, coaches) except the Mission Chief and a team manager for para badminton. “
Sumit Antil and Avni Lekhara will get personal coaches
Javelin thrower Sumit Antil and shooter Avani Lekhara are among the players who will get personal coaches. Both of them will try to defend their gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. The para athletics team is India’s largest team with 38 participants. It also includes the largest number of personal coaches and support staff. All members of the team, except the mission head and the manager of the para badminton team, will get an allowance of US $ 50 per day according to the required and actual period of stay during the Games, which will include acclimatization and training period as well as two days of travel time. Some officials will stay outside the sports village.
