Paris-Roubaix: an Australian runner finishes the race and… continues with a half-marathon

by time news

It is an ordeal from which we do not come out unscathed. A mythical race that makes organisms suffer for days and days. But obviously Cameron Wurf did not have enough of this dreaded Hell of the North, of these 256.6 kilometers of racing, including 54.5 on cobbled sections. After crossing the arrival of Paris-Roubaix, as sumptuous for the spectators as it is trying for the actors, the 39-year-old Australian still felt in his legs and offered himself a very special scrubbing. A double dose of pleasure… or pain.

Just after crossing the line on the Vélodrome track, the Ineos-Grenadiers rider, who finished more than 22 minutes behind the winner Mathieu van der Poel, put his bike away, took the traditional shower and got into the car towards Belgium and the region of Ghent where another ordeal awaited him. A half marathon. Quite simply !

He traveled the 21.2 kilometers in 1h26… an average of 4′06′’ per kilometer. Impressive ! The one who has four participations in the Grand Tours is not, however, a novice in the world of runners. He had also put his cycling career on hold for a few years to satisfy his passion for marathons and other “Ironmans”. In 2017 he won that of Wales and qualified for the Worlds of the discipline. He had finished 17th. In 2018, he took third place in Ironman France. In another life, he also competed in the Athens Olympics in 2004 in rowing and finished 16th in the lightweight double sculls.
