Park Chan-dae, the acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated that he directly conveyed former leader Lee Jae-myung’s opinion regarding the reinstatement of former Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyeong-soo to the Blue House. This contradicts the Blue House’s previous statement that no such request had been received.
Floor leader Park elaborated on the matter during a meeting with reporters on the 11th, saying, “There were questions regarding pardons and reinstatement from the Office of the President long before the recent meeting on pardons and reinstatement.” He claimed to have received former representative Lee’s opinion and another individual’s opinion and relayed them directly to the Office of the President.
Floor leader Park further disclosed that when the Blue House inquired about the Democratic Party’s stance on the matter, former leader Lee conveyed his opinion that former Governor Kim and former Dongyang University Professor Chung Kyung-shim should be pardoned and reinstated. Since it was a request directed at the Democratic Party, Park summarized the opinions of others and relayed them to the Blue House regarding the pardon and reinstatement of former Professor Chung and former Governor Kim.
A war of words has erupted between the Blue House and the Democratic Party regarding the process of reviewing former Governor Kim’s reinstatement.
Following the August 18th National Convention to elect the next representative and supreme council members, former representative Lee met with reporters and expressed his request for the reinstatement of former Governor Kim. The Office of the President, however, refuted this claim, stating that no such request had been received.
