“Police Chae Sang-byeong’s investigation results save Im Seong-geun… Suspicions grow, special investigation is the answer”
“Petition to impeach Yoon exceeds 1.3 million… If you fail to understand public sentiment, the only path to downfall remains”
Park Chan-dae, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, once again urged President Yoon Seok-yeol to accept the special prosecutor law for Chae Sang-byeong on the 9th, pressuring him, saying, “Rejecting the special prosecutor is like confessing to lying to the people on live broadcast and declaring that you will refuse to be the president for the people.”
Acting President Park said at a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on that day, “I hope that the rumors that (President Yoon) will exercise his veto for the 15th time as early as today are false,” and “He will only be criticized for privatizing the power entrusted to him by the people and abusing it to cover up his own criminal suspicions.”
He said, “It is time to keep the promise he made to the people when he said he would personally demand a special prosecutor’s investigation if the investigation results were insufficient,” and “If the president is upright, exercising his veto is not a wise approach.”
He emphasized, “It would be much wiser to show the will to accept public sentiment by accepting the special prosecutor’s law and to assert one’s innocence.”
Regarding the announcement the previous day of the police investigation results into the death of a Marine Corps soldier, Acting Director Park said, “The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency announced the results of the investigation that there was no suspicion regarding Lim Seong-geun in the death of the Marine Corps soldier,” and downplayed the announcement, saying, “It was nothing more or less than trying to save Division Commander Lim Seong-geun.”
He then argued, “Not only has the Ministry of National Defense’s unreasonable collection of investigative records turned around the charge of insubordination against Colonel Park, but President Yoon’s rage, who the number 02-800-7070 was, and the content of the phone call, etc., none of the key issues have been revealed,” adding, “This is a typical tail-cutting, investigation aimed at the president.”
He raised his voice, saying, “If there had been an investigation, all suspicions should have been cleared up, but the suspicions have grown,” and “It has become even clearer that a special investigation of the Marines is the right answer.”
He also warned the People Power Party, which suggested exercising its veto, saying, “Is it normal for the ruling party to act solely for the sake of bulletproofing the president and his wife?” and “The number of signatures for the impeachment petition for President Yoon has exceeded 1.3 million. If they fail to realize that public sentiment toward the president, government, and ruling party that have destroyed fairness and common sense is that fierce, they will only be headed down the path to ruin.”
