On the 20th, Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae asked President Yoon Seok-yeol regarding his remarks on “anti-state forces’ activities,” “Why does the president, who represents the Republic of Korea and all its people, make remarks that incite national division so often?”
Floor leader Park Geun-hye held a floor strategy meeting at the National Assembly this morning and said, “For the past two and a half years, whenever President Yoon felt he was on the defensive, he has repeated the behavior of spewing baseless and unsubstantial curses such as ‘communist totalitarian forces,’ ‘opportunistic followers,’ and ‘anti-state forces.’”
Floor leader Park asked, “Are you trying to evade the situation by once again invoking the specter of ideology as you have recently been criticized for your repeated pro-Japanese and treasonous behavior?” and “Who is the real anti-state force that threatens liberal democracy?”
He then targeted President Yoon, mentioning “a force that completely ignores the legislative power of the National Assembly and denies the constitutional principle of separation of powers,” “a force that sees the opposition party not as a partner in governing the country but as an enemy to be fought and defeated,” and “a force that shakes the very identity of the Republic of Korea to its core by emphasizing the pro-Japanese New Right history,” and asked, “Aren’t these the real anti-state forces that threaten the liberal democracy of the Republic of Korea?”
Floor leader Park said, “It is truly inappropriate and irresponsible incitement for the president, who should unite and embrace the entire nation, to divide the nation by blaming others all the time,” and emphasized, “This kind of incitement does not hide the government’s incompetence, and no citizen will fall for it.”
He added, “I sincerely advise you to conduct more research to find good policies that can save the people’s economy, which is on the brink of collapse, at a time like this.”
Park said in relation to the announcement by Statistics Korea last month that the number of young people (aged 15-29) who “just rested” reached a record high of 443,000, “The bigger problem is that these young people want to work but cannot find the jobs they want.”
He continued, “The Democratic Party will carefully pursue policy alternatives such as creating quality jobs for young people and strengthening support for each stage of employment, as promised in the last general election,” and urged, “I also urge President Yoon to stop inciting people to take sides and focus on creating a country where young people can live without being frustrated.”
President Yoon said at a Cabinet meeting the previous day, “Anti-state forces that threaten liberal democracy are active in various places within our society,” and “North Korea will mobilize them from the beginning of the war to increase national confusion and divide public opinion through violence, public opinion manipulation, propaganda, and agitation.”
