Former Vietnam national soccer team coach Park Hang-seo (67), who is receiving interest from countries such as India and Cambodia, is carefully considering and coordinating his ‘final destination’.

An official from Coach Park Hang-seo’s side explained to ‘News 1’, “Coach Park Hang-seo believes that if he takes on the role of national team coach this time, it will be his last part as an on-site coach. That’s why he is seriously considering a more ‘meaningful’ challenge.”

Coach Park Hang-seo, who led the Vietnam national team and Vietnam U23 (under-23) national team from 2017 to 2023, created a ‘rice-dink craze’ by achieving achievements such as winning the 2018 SEA Football Federation Cup, advancing to the 2022 World Cup Asian final qualifier, and finishing runner-up in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship during his tenure.

Coach Park Hang-seo, who stepped down from his post as head coach of Vietnam, is now serving as an advisor to Bac Ninh FC in Vietnam’s third division. Other Asian countries that have witnessed the ‘Park Hang-seo effect’ are constantly sending him love calls.

Indian media reported that Coach Park Hang-seo had personally applied for the position of head coach of the Indian national team and that he was a strong candidate for the position, and in Cambodia, Coach Park Hang-seo’s name has also been continuously mentioned as a candidate for the next head coach.

An official from Park Hang-seo’s side denied the reports, saying, “It is true that we communicated with the Indian side, but we did not provide any official support from our side.” He then explained, “It is true that several Asian countries have shown interest, including an offer from Singapore last year.”

He added, “Coach Park Hang-seo intends to take on a meaningful challenge with this decision, which will effectively be the last destination of his coaching career.”

He said, “The reason I communicated with India was because I believed that if we succeed in West Asia, where Korean leaders are not recognized as much as in Southeast Asia, it could open up another path for our juniors,” adding, “Also, Cambodia lags behind other Southeast Asian countries in football development, so it would be meaningful to help develop that country’s infrastructure,” adding, “I am thinking about making a more meaningful choice rather than other treatment such as salary.”
