Comedian Park Na-rae Faces Abuse of Power Allegations, Past Drinking Habits Under Scrutiny

A growing controversy surrounds South Korean comedian Park Na-rae as allegations of workplace abuse and troubling drinking habits resurface, prompting legal action from former employees.

On Thursday, March 7th, two former managers of Park Na-rae filed a request for provisional seizure of real estate with the Seoul Western District Court, seeking approximately $77,000 (100 million won) in damages. The lawsuit alleges a pattern of workplace harassment, “special injuries,” unauthorized medical prescriptions arranged by the comedian, and unpaid compensation for their services during their employment.

According to reports, the former managers claim Park Na-rae subjected them to a demanding and exploitative work environment. This included being on-call 24/7, performing personal errands such as procuring snacks and cleaning up after parties, and allegedly being pressured to consume alcohol. Claims have also emerged suggesting the managers were treated as domestic helpers, tasked with responsibilities extending to the comedian’s family affairs.

One former manager detailed a disturbing incident, alleging verbal abuse for refusing to drink and sustaining an injury after being struck by a glass thrown by Park Na-rae during an outburst. The manager also claimed to have been tasked with arranging hospital appointments and securing proxy prescriptions for the comedian.

A representative for Park Na-rae acknowledged the situation, stating, “We are checking the current situation,” and promised a more detailed response once the facts are confirmed.

The allegations have prompted renewed examination of Park Na-rae’s well-documented history with alcohol. Concerns about her drinking were publicly voiced last year by her own mother during an appearance on the Channel A entertainment program Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center.

Park Na-rae’s mother expressed worry over her daughter’s habit, particularly given her history of vocal cord surgery – three procedures in total. She recounted instances of her daughter drinking and behaving aggressively, stating, “(Park Na-rae) doesn’t have a good throat…She needs to take care of it, but she drinks while hitting her younger brother and swearing.” The mother further lamented that her daughter’s lifestyle appeared to disregard the necessary care for her vocal health.

The mother also expressed frustration with her daughter’s behavior while intoxicated, noting that alcohol seemed to embolden her to speak without restraint, potentially causing harm to others. “We say that talking while drinking is invalid, but this guy overdoes it,” she stated.

Further fueling the scrutiny, actor Lee Si-eon previously shared a story on the YouTube channel ‘Naraesik’ detailing a concerning incident involving Park Na-rae’s intoxication. Lee Si-eon described a scene where Park Na-rae appeared to briefly lose consciousness before abruptly regaining composure and proclaiming, “You all lost.”

Park Na-rae was hospitalized for vocal cord surgery in February of last year, as documented on the MBC entertainment program I Live Alone. This history underscores the potential risks associated with her reported alcohol consumption and its impact on her health.
