Chicago’s “Big Park Picnic” Blends Community, Music, and Support for the Homeless
A vibrant community event, the “Big Park Picnic,” aims to foster connection and raise awareness for Digs with Dignity, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness through home furnishings. The picnic promises an afternoon of live music, local cuisine, and opportunities to support a vital cause.
A Celebration of Chicago Spirit
The “Big Park Picnic” is designed to be more than just a gathering; it’s an experience. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and friends to enjoy Chicago’s best food trucks, live music, and surprise giveaways. Organizers envision the event as a space for genuine connections and a reminder of the city’s unique appeal.
“This is about celebrating what makes Chicago home for everyone,” a senior official stated. “We want to create a space where people can connect, enjoy themselves, and learn about how they can make a difference.”
Digs with Dignity: Furnishing Futures
At the heart of the picnic is Digs with Dignity, a local nonprofit making a tangible impact on the lives of Chicagoans experiencing homelessness. Since 2019, the organization has focused on a simple yet powerful concept: providing fully furnished homes for families transitioning out of homelessness.
Every week, the DIGS team utilizes donated furniture and housewares to create customized homes, offering stability and dignity to those in need. To date, Digs with Dignity has furnished homes for over 225 families.
Upcycling for Impact
Beyond providing essential furnishings, Digs with Dignity is committed to environmental sustainability. The organization has upcycled more than 235,000 pounds of furniture, diverting waste from landfills and giving new life to discarded items. This dual focus on social impact and environmental responsibility sets Digs with Dignity apart.
“We believe everyone deserves a dignified place to call home, and we’re committed to doing our part to make that a reality,” according to a company release.
