Today, in accordance with the provisions of section 67 of the Penal Code, if a person does not pay a fine on time, including a fine in the case of a parking offense, an additional arrears of fifty percent of the fine or part thereof is added to it. In addition, every six months from the date of non-payment of the fine, an additional arrears of five percent is added to the fine.
The explanatory memorandum to the proposal states that: “The bill came to correct a severe distortion in which people pay fines that swelled and reached very high amounts, whether they were unaware of the existence of the fine or the date of payment of the fine was forgotten by them, in two ways: one. “Register, after 60 days from the date of the notice of the fine. The second is to reduce the rate of additional arrears due to non-payment of the fine by 15 percent, instead of 50 percent.”
The proposal will be discussed in the Knesset’s Economics Committee, after it was passed with the support of 10 Knesset members, and without opponents.
