The Bulgarian Parliament recently adopted, in ⁤its second reading, amendments to the‌ Law on Credit Institutions (LKI). These amendments aim to align the national legal ⁣framework with European regulations and the role of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) within the ‍Single Supervisory Mechanism following the adoption ⁤of the euro.

The amendments also address the Anti-Corruption Law, expanding the circle ⁤of competent authorities authorized to conduct checks in the Central ⁤Credit Register and the Register of bank accounts and safes. This includes the Commission for Illegally Acquired Property and the Commission for Combating ⁢Corruption. Additionally,⁣ the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ structures are added to the list ⁣of entities with access to the‌ BNB’s information system.

During the debate,‍ Dimo Drenchev from “Vazrazhdane” proposed removing the access of the two aforementioned directorates, but his proposal⁢ was ‌rejected with 53 votes in favor, 99 against, and 4 abstentions.

The bill was initially voted⁢ on in its‌ first reading on July 26.
