BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a meeting with President Sahabuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban that an interim government will be formed ‘very quickly’ after dissolving Parliament. That government will hold elections in three months.
He also said that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will be released ‘without any delay’.
A few hours after Sheikh Hasina left the country after ending her 16-year rule on Monday, army chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman along with three army chiefs went to Ganabhaban along with Fakhrul and the leaders of the parties in simultaneous movement with BNP.
A delegation of three members of the anti-discrimination student movement calling for non-cooperation in the one-phase movement to bring down government jobs and quotas in government jobs went there during the meeting.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, highlighting the decision of the discussion with the President, said that three army chiefs including the army had invited us to take advice on how to manage the country in a healthy manner after this fall. As a result, we came here, spoke to the President.
The decision that has been taken is that firstly, they will dissolve the parliament today and immediately form an interim government and that government will be elected within three months. Secondly, the country leader Begum Khaleda Zia who was unjustly and illegally detained is ill. He will be released within two days.
He said, thirdly, they will release all the students and political parties who have been arrested with false cases in this movement.
When asked when the new government will be formed, Mirza Fakhrul said, there is a possibility that this government will be formed within twenty-four hours.
When asked what kind of government will be, he said, this government will be an interim government. Its character will be non-partisan government. We offer it. They will arrange elections within three months.
We appeal to the entire nation to maintain peace and order in the country and to prevent anarchy, everyone be calm. Everyone should be alert so that anarchy does not happen, take measures.
He said, we have discussed and demanded the release of acting chairman of our party, Tariq Rahman.
