This meeting, organized at the initiative of the House of Advisors in collaboration with the Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA), is part of the support of the leadership of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, in the launch of any development and solidarity initiative aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation.

A press release from the House of Advisors indicates that this conference is also part of the implementation of the Rabat Declaration, capital of South-South cooperation, published at the end of the South-South Forum, held in March 2022 and reaffirms the need to strengthen South-South cooperation ties and the joint action of legislative institutions, particularly in light of the multiple and successive crises that the world is going through today.

It also reaffirms the conviction that cooperation with the South constitutes a strategic choice for sustainable development and an essential tool for strengthening economic interests and humanitarian links in order to achieve integration into the global economy, adds the same source.

During this Conference, participants will address current strategic issues, mainly those related to development, economic transition, trade, investment, technology, innovation and energy, health, food and water security, with the aim of formulating and adopting concrete recommendations, proposals and decisions, which are part of the framework of highlighting the role of national parliaments and African, Arab and Latin American regional and continental parliamentary unions, in promoting and strengthening strategic partnerships in the economic, social and humanitarian fields.

The discussions will focus on three themes, namely: “Strengthening political dialogue and regional security in Africa, the Arab world and Latin America to achieve peace, stability and prosperity”, “Achieving economic transformation, regional integration and common development: The importance of policies associated with strengthening strategic partnerships, promoting investment, technology and infrastructure and enhancing competitiveness” and “The sustainable development – energy – environment triad”.
