As Telia Lietuva’s representative Audrius Stasiulaitis said, the situation is improving little by little, the company is managing to restore more and more communication stations that were interrupted by the storm. According to him, the company’s employees transport spare generators to such stations around the clock.
“This morning we had a fifth reduction in the number of inactive stations. The situation is getting better and better throughout Lithuania,” A. Stasiulaitis told Elta on Tuesday.
According to him, the communication stations most affected by the storm are located on the fault map published by the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO), the situation has not changed significantly – on Monday A. Stasiulaitis said that the most affected stations are in central and eastern Lithuania. Their restoration will depend on the speed of the ESO in restoring the power supply.
“We are directly dependent on the ESO reconstruction works. (…) Today we can see that perhaps 10 more base stations will be able to be resurrected”, noted A. Stasiulaitis.
According to the company, the mobile connection was interrupted in the districts with the fewest stations, where residents have less opportunities to “catch” the connection of another, nearby station.
“It’s like this with mobile communication – if there is no electricity, you can tell very clearly how many houses don’t have it. It is different with mobile communication – that station may not work, but a person lives, for example, somewhere where the signal of another station reaches. (…) So we cannot name how many people currently have a weaker connection”, added A. Stasiulaitis.
As stated by “Bitė Lietuva”, about 7% of the population does not currently have electricity. the operator’s communication towers, as a result of which the quality of the Internet may suffer.

The so-called nodal transport stations are especially important – the main communication towers of Lithuanian districts. These stations cover the largest areas of the territory of Lithuania. At the moment, we do not have non-functioning node stations in the “Bites” network and the situation is under control,” the company’s general director Gintas Butėnas was quoted as saying in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to the data of the communication operator, the most difficult situation remains in the northern part of the country and in southeastern Lithuania, especially many residents face communication disturbances in Vilnius. However, according to G. Butėnas, the situation is not critical, customers can use older call technology.
