The Latvian crew Arturs Priednieks/Jānis Krikovalds will also participate in the WRC stage for the first time.
“This is the dream of every racing driver – to participate in the WRC. It didn’t work out when we were young, now we are experienced and we participate,” says Priednieks.
He says it’s a surprise because there was a moment when it looked like there wouldn’t be funding.
“The driver and I have looked at the roads of Kurzeme, which have changed in the meantime, what’s new,” says the pilot about the preparation for the WRC stage. “Also, the pond that remains vivid in our memories has changed its location, and even though there have not been as many trainings as we would like, we have the experience and the desire,” says Priednieks.
“Our company’s strategy and mission is car financing – we support a lot of people, fulfilling their goal of a new car,” says JSC “Mogo” board chairman Ęirts Kurmis.
“We also decided to support Priednieks and Kirkovalds’ dream of participating in the World Rally Championship, and right now there is a feeling of satisfaction for this historic moment,” adds Kurmis.
It has already been reported that on Thursday in Riga, with the participation of Latvian pilots Mārtiņš Seskas, Matīs Mežaks and Priednieks, an event dedicated to the WRC stage in Latvia was held, where you could see the “Rally 1” class car, with which Sesks/Renārs Francis will start the competition, as well as the other Latvian pilots “Rally 2” cars and get autographs.
The first WRC stage in history will take place in Latvia from July 18 to 21. The rally will cover the territory from Liepāja to Riga, with speed stages also taking place in Tukuma district, Talsi and Talsu district, Kuldīga district and Dienvikkurzeme district.
The crews in Latvia will have to perform 20 speed stages with a length of 300.13 kilometers, but together with the crossings they will be more than 1000 kilometers.
