17. NN Ultrabalaton

With a time of 16:27.54 hours, Norbert Mihalik set a new course record in the “Ultrabalaton”. He undercut Tamás Bódis’ previous best time by almost seven minutes. Zsuzsanna Maráz won the women’s race with a time of 21:20.06.

The 17th NN Ultrabalaton around Lake Balaton started and finished in Balatonfüred. The distance of 211 km was faced by 250 extreme athletes, who each completed this lap alone. In addition, the most diverse relays could be formed, for which a record number of 22,000 runners registered. This makes the Balaton Run the most popular mass sports event in Hungary.

This year, the Ultrabalaton was also used as a promotional event for the World Championships in Athletics, which will be held in Budapest for the first time (19-27 August). Anyone who takes part in the Balaton circuit, whether individually or in a relay, can buy tickets for the World Cup at half price. Organizers BioTechUSA and NN raised HUF 21.5 million for charity in connection with Ultrabalaton. According to the wishes of the athletes, the donations will benefit the Peter Cerny Foundation and the University Hospital of Fejér County.
