Now it’s getting tight for Boris Johnson (57)!
While the British prime minister is fighting for office in the “Partygate” scandal, possible successors are already publicly positioning themselves. Conservative MP Tom Tugendhat (48) told Times Radio on Saturday that he would run for Johnson’s successor if there was a vote.
The Tory politician is head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Parliament and is considered an internal party critic of Johnson.
▶︎ Tugendhat: “It’s up to us to throw our hat in the ring. And it’s up to the voters, first to their colleagues in parliament and then to the party members, then to vote.”
As the Daily Mail reported, Tugendhat has the support of several Tory MPs from the center of the party!

Background: Johnson has been under heavy pressure for weeks over the Downing Street lockdown party affair. It is eagerly awaited whether an internal investigation report contains indications that Johnson or his employees have broken corona rules. Then there should be an internal party vote of no confidence in the prime minister.
Two other possible Johnson successors are being traded
However, the report will initially only be published in a heavily censored version in order to avoid “any bias” in police investigations. Foreign Minister Liz Truss (46) and Finance Minister Rishi Sunak (41) are traded as Johnson’s successors. So far they have publicly denied any interest.

A report in the Telegraph newspaper increased the pressure on Johnson again.
︎ Accordingly, his current wife Carrie (33) organized a birthday party for Johnson in June 2020 in Downing Street. In messages to a top official, Carrie Johnson urged staff to be serenaded and a cake brought to the PM. Private meetings between members of several households were forbidden at the time.
