Armenia is looking for new partners because Moscow has not fulfilled its obligations as an ally, especially in the last month, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

The leader of Armenia said in an interview with “The Wall Street Journal” newspaper: “These events made us decide to diversify our security relations, and we are working on it now.”

He added that in this regard, he does not see any advantage in maintaining the presence of Russian military bases in Armenia.

Pashinyan further noted that he is optimistic about the prospects of a peaceful settlement with Azerbaijan in the coming months.

In response to a question about the country’s historical relations with Russia, Pashinyan called to pay attention to Armenia’s longer history with its Turkish neighbors, Turkey and Azerbaijan. “All the questions and all the answers are here,” he said. “First of all, we should try to improve our regional relations.”

Pashinyan emphasized that the diversification of security relations sought by Armenia should be understood not simply as a demand for military bases and weapons from the West, but as a desire for lasting regional peace.
