Helping to establish strong peace and stability in the South Caucasus is the priority of the Republic of Armenia, and in this context, I attach importance to the opening of the region’s infrastructures, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with the Greek “Kathimerini” publication, News.am reported.

The “Crossroads of the World” project envisages a significant increase in capacity, road freight transportation, pipelines, power lines and internet cables between the Black Sea through the territory of Armenia on the one hand, and the Persian and Oman Gulfs on the other. Because the most optimal railway route from Georgia to Armenia and Iran passes through Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan, and this railway existed in the Soviet years. This is the “crossroads of the world” North-South route, – said the Prime Minister of Armenia.

There is also an East-West direction that will connect the Caspian Sea with the territory of Armenia and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as Turkish ports on the Black Sea. Therefore, railways and highways, pipelines, electric lines, cables from Azerbaijan should enter Turkey through Armenia.

“We are ready for such decisions. Moreover, the infrastructure of this road can be used to create a connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. This is possible under the following conditions:

– All infrastructure must be under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which it passes;

– Each country carries out border and customs control through state institutions in its territory and ensures security;

– The mentioned infrastructure can be used for both international and domestic transport;

“All countries use each other’s infrastructure based on the principle of equality and reciprocity,” Pashinyan said.
