Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today – on March 12, he said that there was never a conversation about giving some village of Tavush province to Azerbaijan, and it will never happen.

“Every time the names of these villages are mentioned in the Azerbaijani press, there have never been villages with such names in the territory of Armenia”Pashinyan emphasized.

But the prime minister did not rule out that the delimitation will start from Tavush territory.

Regarding the exchange of territories with Azerbaijan, Pashinyan said that there are few such possibilities: “It could be misleading or lead to additional risks.”

“For this reason, we must find out where our communications are in the near future. We must make sure that all communications in Armenia pass through its territory, so that we do not have problems in this area,” the Prime Minister of Armenia added.

According to him, signing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan and demarcating the borders based on three principles is a priority for Yerevan. Those principles are: Azerbaijan and Armenia should recognize each other’s territorial integrity based on the 1991 Almaty Declaration. Let the Almaty declaration be the political basis for border demarcation and not create new borders. Regional communications should be opened based on the principles of sovereignty, respect for jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity.

Baku demands that Armenia withdraw from four villages, Yerevan…

Two days after the meeting of the border commissions on March 7, official Baku said that the four non-exclave villages occupied by Armenia (Bağanis Ayrym, Ashagi Eskipara, Kheyrimli and Gizilhajili) belong to Azerbaijan without dispute and should be released immediately.

The head of the commission on the delimitation of the state border with Armenia, the deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan reported this Shahin Mustafayevoffice has released information. It was noted that within the framework of the delimitation process, the issue of the liberation of the four exclave villages of Azerbaijan under the occupation of Armenia (Yukhari Eskipara, Sofulu, Barkhudarlı and Karki) will be resolved.

Azatutyun, the Armenian service of RFE/RL, writes that in the early 1990s, Azerbaijan also occupied a larger enclave of Armenia, as well as agricultural areas belonging to border communities.

The Armenian government states that 200 square kilometers of its internationally recognized territory is currently under the control of Azerbaijan, and is ready to discuss the transfer of Azerbaijani enclaves to those territories and other compromise solutions.

Sh. Mustafayev’s office said that Azerbaijan has never occupied the territory of Armenia, and the “immediate liberation” of the four villages should take place before the parties start delimiting and demarcating the borders.
