Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will soon announce his decision on participating in the COP29 conference, which will be held in Baku this November, Day.Az reported on Saturday, citing Armenian media.

According to Armenian media, citing their sources, after returning from vacation on August 12, Pashinyan will carry out personnel changes in the government, as well as hold a press conference at which he will announce his decision on participation in COP29 and deliver specific messages regarding the signing of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that earlier, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev stated at the II Shusha Global Media Forum that Azerbaijan invited Armenia to COP29.

Hikmet Hajiyev noted that COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev sent an official invitation to the Armenian Foreign Minister.

“We have officially invited Armenia to COP29. In the absence of diplomatic relations between the two countries, this invitation demonstrates Azerbaijan’s goodwill and inclusive approach. Now is the time for the Armenian authorities to make a decision,” Hajiyev emphasized.

Let us recall that in November this year, Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). The decision to do so was made at the COP28 plenary session held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Over the course of two weeks, Baku, becoming the center of the world, will host about 70-80 thousand foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The abbreviation COP stands for Conference of Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The convention has 198 parties. Unless the parties decide otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
