Pasión y Semen is one of those examples in which the Andalusian scene asserts itself

by time news

On the next 15 and 16 April it will be performed at the South Wind Theater of Sevilla, Passion and Cumhand in hand with Inc. Garlic and water. Piece, which by the way, was awarded the Lorca Revelation Award in this year’s edition.

The members of this young company are the ones who continue to certify the multiplier effect generated by the Creation Laboratory that has been carried out for almost thirty years at the TNT Center (Seville). Where freshness, commitment to their profession and creativity are their main values. Along these lines, I remember being disarmed after seeing this piece on the day of its premiere as part of the TAPE Contest (TNT Theatre), when I was part of the jury for the 2021 edition. That is the main reason why I have not reviewed until now Passion and Cum (as well as the other works that entered in that contest of stage creations of contemporary investigation in Andalusia), not considering that it was appropriate to issue a public judgment of any of the pieces that I would later judge together with the rest of the members of the jury. Which leads me to mention that the entire cast of this piece won the award for best interpretation of that edition of CINTA.

So I have decided to take advantage of this new opportunity offered by the Teatro Viento Sur to see again Passion and Cum; as well as, to give words to my impressions. Without further ado, I refer you to the synopsis of this work by this Andalusian company:

That happens to you for being careless’

Women dressed in white nightgowns sing to the penalty to the beat of tangos, while the accused penance is silent with them.

The captive is stripped of his garments until he is completely stripped naked, crucified and killed.

Old ladies who murmur in line at the fishmonger, gossip and judge.

In a corner a young man thirsty for affection sings a couplet to an unknown penis.

Hospitalized again, the future looks much rawer, with no special effects.

And now, how to talk about this naturally? In the current society we live in… it’s difficult. Our morality prevents us from talking openly about sex and everything that surrounds it. We are ashamed because these diseases are stigmatized, since it seems that society forces us to bear the blame for the way we contracted them.
