Jeddah has started allowing passengers and lorries on the Oman-Saudi road. Freight lorries were the first to reach the border. In addition, Omanis entered Saudi Arabia through the border post.


The Rubul Khali (Empty Quarter) border post welcomes travelers to both countries 24 hours a day. Freight lorries will only be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The road connecting Oman with Saudi Arabia passes through the Empty Quarter Desert. The Omani government built 160 km at a cost of 200 million Omani riyals and the Saudi Arabia 566 km at a cost of 100 million riyals.

With the new road, Oman-Saudi trade-goods volume will increase. More and more people are going to Saudi Arabia by road for necessities, including Umrah. Oman national flags are hoisted on the Oman side of the border post.
