South Korea’s Incheon International Airport is using a sniffer dog to check for bedbugs on athletes, officials and fans returning from the Paris Olympics.

As reported by Day.Az, this was reported by the Reuters agency.

The Olympic team and fans will be greeted by a two-year-old beagle named Seko, who is still the only dog in the country trained to detect the smell of bedbugs. The dog can inspect hotel rooms and determine the presence of insects in two minutes.

The team and their dog arrived at Incheon International Airport on August 9, when the first athletes and officials returned, and will continue to meet passengers arriving from Paris until September 8. The work is being carried out jointly by pest control company Cesco, the airport management, airlines and relevant national agencies.

In addition, additional disinfection of aircraft operating flights between Paris and Seoul is being carried out at the airport. If such work is usually carried out once a month, then now the aircraft are being treated every week.

The bedbug problem came to the forefront of the French media last fall, with social media reports of the presence of these parasites in hospitals, cinemas and even on public transport in Paris, although the transport companies themselves denied this. In South Korea, reports of the presence of these parasites increased at the same time.

It should be noted that spectators at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris booed French President Emmanuel Macron.
