Actually, a case has come to light from Bhopal. Where the District Consumer Forum has ordered the Railways to pay Rs 5000 to the complainant as compensation for mental distress. The entire matter is of 4 October 2018. Complainant Vijay Kumar Sehgal of Bhopal was traveling by Swarn Jayanti Express train number 12032 on 4 October 2018. He had spent thousands of rupees and booked four seats in the AC coach of the train. As soon as he boarded the train to travel, he saw that there was a lot of dirt in his coach. A lot of dirt had accumulated in his seat also.
Railways took action against the caterer
After this, when he somehow started his journey, carelessness was revealed at every level. When he ordered food, he got useless food from the railway’s catering facility. Troubled by this, he complained to the Railways. When railway officials conducted an investigation, the quality of food was found to be poor, but the cleanliness appeared to be perfect. In this case, Railways also took challan action against the agency providing catering facilities.
Order to pay compensation of Rs 5000
After this matter, complainant Vijay Kumar Sehgal lodged a complaint in the District Consumer Forum, Bhopal. While hearing the case, Commission Chairperson Giribala Singh, members Anjum Firoz, Arun Pratap Singh thoroughly investigated the matter and now the Commission has given its decision. The Commission ordered that since the complaining passenger was given spoiled food by the Railways, the Railways should pay an amount of Rs 5000 as compensation to the passenger.

Railways accepted the food malfunction, however the Commission also said that the complainant could not prove that there was dirt in the seat and compartment. For this he will not be given any kind of assistance. But in the matter of serving spoiled food, the Railways has admitted that the caterer had committed irregularities, hence the complainant has been ordered to pay compensation of Rs 5000.
