Tirupur: Physical education teachers and coaches have given various ideas to help the students who show their talent in the Mutalvar Cup sports competition to win successive state and national competitions.

In order to identify students who shine in sports in government schools and to participate in state and national level competitions, district-level sports competitions are being conducted to select players for the Chief Minister’s Cup.

In this, competitions like Kabaddi, Basketball, Volleyball, Chess, Table Tennis, Hockey, Cricket, Volleyball, Chilambam, Football, Swimming and Athletics are conducted.

Talented students in their respective sports are selected at school level and sent to competitions. In this, students who win at the district level are selected for the state competition; But many of them do not go to the next level. Other state-level competitions, national-level competitions, Commonwealth, Olympics, etc., do not go to the next level.

The timing is not right

Some government school physical education teachers said:

Currently, students of class 10th and 12th are not able to participate in sports as they are preparing for public examination. If such competitions are conducted in the month of June – September, all the students will benefit.

Students participating in competitions do not have necessary sports equipment, sports clothes, shoes, etc.; Although some school teachers buy them through donors, many schools do not have such a situation. Importantly, there is no sports infrastructure in schools.

What should be done to develop the talent of students who shine in sports?

David Jayakumar, Table Tennis:

Although government school students are interested in sports, they do not have equipment like table tennis table, bat and ball. Thus, they are not able to get continuous training; There are no coaches who provide training and specialize in a particular sport.

A few school teachers on their own initiative purchase equipment through donors and provide training to students. Only such students achieve. There are many coaches ready to provide coaching to talented government school students.

Subhish, Swimming Association Secretary:

Many students of Tirupur Government School have swimming skills; They have good physical strength, except their swimming style is wrong; If you give them proper training, tricks and continuous training, they will definitely succeed.

They say that they should come 2-3 days before the Chief Minister’s Cup and get training; How can they succeed? A swimming pool must be constructed in Tirupur by Sports Development Authority. I am ready to teach talented and poor students for free.

Mohammed Syed, Badminton:

Any sport requires regular practice. As for volleyball, most of the boys and girls play; But due to lack of continuous practice and effort, one cannot advance to the next level.

Just as you go to school every day, you have to go to the training center at certain times and get training. Talented, underprivileged government school students can be ‘sponsored’ to take them to the next level.

Sports enthusiasts are of the opinion that proper training is necessary to enhance the talent of the students who shine in the Chief Minister’s Cup competition.

At the same time, the general opinion of many trainers is that they are ready to provide training to talented students if they only cover their transportation expenses without any profit motive.
