Although there are already indications that a revival is taking place in some regions of Europe, the evangelistic scene on the continent is still of great concern, according to Pastor Rodrigues Pereira, who resides in Portugal and is the organizer of an activity that aims to proclaim the name of Christ, called The Change.

Pereira explained that, unlike in the past, when Europe was the breadbasket of missionaries for the world, currently the continent is undergoing a reverse process with regard to the relationship with God, with many experiencing a spiritual cooling.

“Today most people in Portugal consider themselves Christians, but the great difficulty is explaining that they need to make a decision for Christ”, he said, explaining that The Change was designed precisely to deal with this situation, in order to alert Europeans about this need.

With the spiritual cooling, many churches ended up closing, and their temples were transformed into clubs, bars and other things that have nothing to do with the purpose for which they were created.

“Today many traditional temples are being transformed into bars and cafes, because there was no re-evangelization. When we have a generation that is Christian, we need to re-evangelize the one that comes next, and that hasn’t been done,” he said in an interview with guide me.

Pereira recalled that most countries today, which live Christianity fervently, are the result of missionary work initiated by Europeans, but that as “Europe did not focus” on evangelization itself, now it is the continent that needs help.

The pastor concludes by making an appeal for the mobilization of Christians: “The best way is to witness by example — not only in Portugal, but throughout Europe. Furthermore, the Church needs to show the power of Jesus in signs, miracles and wonders. When people see this, they don’t doubt it.”
