Latest Patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 Pleases Fans of NPC Cat

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans have been eagerly awaiting the latest hotfix patch, and it seems that one particular character in the game has received some much-needed attention. His Majesty, an NPC cat who resides in the game’s Last Light Inn, has undergone some visual changes that have both pleased and angered players.

Initially, when the game was released, His Majesty was depicted as a Sphynx cat, a breed known for its distinctive lack of fur. However, it was soon discovered that this was actually a bug, and that His Majesty shared the same character model as another Sphynx cat in the game named Steelclaw.

In response to this oversight, developer Larian Studios addressed the issue in their third patch for the game. The patch notes stated, “Updated the visuals of His Majesty, who previously looked like Steelclaw. His Majesty’s appearance now befits his name and nature.” This meant that His Majesty was given fur, as was originally intended. However, this change did not sit well with some players who had grown accustomed to the cat’s hairless appearance.

Responding to fan feedback, Larian Studios released the latest hotfix patch, which once again altered His Majesty’s appearance. In a tweet, the studio announced, “Hotfix #8 is now live for Baldur’s Gate 3. This update addresses several crashes and issues, including your party members transferring every important item to you upon dismissal. More importantly, we shaved His Majesty.”

To ensure a clear distinction between His Majesty and Steelclaw, Larian Studios also adjusted the color of Steelclaw’s eyes, making the two character models no longer identical.

The reaction to this decision has been mixed. Some players expressed their gratitude for the reversion, with Twitter follower Emma Kent saying, “Thank you for re-balding the cat.” Another user named Luke Rogers declared this patch as “the most important patch in gaming history.”

Aside from this cat-related change, the hotfix patch also addressed several gameplay issues, including crashes and bugs. It fixed a crash that would occur during multiplayer dialogue, resolved problems with Vulkan causing crashes, and ensured that Skeletons created using Animate Dead would have their ranged weapons.

Other fixes included the restoration of Raphael’s hair color and horns, the correction of visual issues with fog and materials generation, the adjustment of Splint Armour for Githyanki Females that caused strange visual effects, and the correction of Twitch drops not being claimable on PlayStation 5.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players can now enjoy a more visually accurate depiction of His Majesty, along with various gameplay improvements, thanks to the latest hotfix patch. Whether this patch will truly go down in gaming history as the “most important” remains to be seen, but it is certainly a significant update for fans of the popular franchise.
