Pathumata Diawara is coming to Israel, and if you didn’t know her, now is the time

by time news

The Israeli audience – and accordingly, also the producers of the shows – have a certain tendency to prioritize musicians from the usual Anglo-American line. We don’t blame them, it’s obvious why this bias exists. And yet, we have a tendency to sometimes miss wonderful artists from around the world, and when they suddenly appear to us as guests of greater artists, you can understand how much we needed them. Such is the Queen of Pathumata Diawara, a name you might break your teeth to pronounce, but you won’t be able to stop talking about her after the future performance in Israel.

Diawara is expected to land in Israel for a performance with a full band on 8.12 at the Barbie Club, produced by the production company ZUZZ Agency, part of an ongoing world tour of the artist, which mixes the genres of blues, soul, rabbit and folk with local styles of Mali, her country of origin. During the last few years, Diavara has been living in France, and from there has managed a successful international career that has led her to several surprising performances and collaborations, including Grammy and Oscar nominations. Yes, she is also a successful actress.

Fatomata Diawara was born in Ivory Coast to parents from Mali, where she returned to live with her aunt, until she ran away at the age of 18 to pursue a career as an actress. And we write ran away, because in this act she avoided entering into a marriage arranged by her family. There she had some success in the worlds of acting, including a role in the 2014 film Timbuktu, which was nominated for an Oscar in the foreign film category. At the same time she began to develop her music career, learned to play the electric guitar and discovered her mesmerizing voice to the world. This career took on even more, leading her to perform with Paul McCartney, to guest on songs by Herbie Hancock, The Gorillaz and Disclosure, a collaboration that even earned her a Grammy nomination.
