Madurai: 4 people including 2 medical students, a nurse and an employee were transferred to Balarengapuram Government Hospital after the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital discharged a patient whose leg was infested with maggots and flies without treatment.

More than 13 thousand people visit Madurai Government Hospital for treatment every day. Due to the shortage of doctors and nurses, the hospital administration continues to provide treatment to patients with medical students. However, from time to time patients complain of delayed treatment. After arriving at ‘Dean’ Rathinavelu, he has been inspecting the wards of the hospital daily and asking the patients about their treatment details and complaints.

Even so, many doctors go missing during work hours. As a result, it is alleged that the treatments given to patients are delayed and deaths occur. In this case, a helpless laborer named Prakash from Madurai was lying unconscious with a big wound on his leg in front of Madurai Government Hospital Mortuary 2 days ago. Volunteers rescued him with flies and ant worms on his body and admitted him to the government hospital for treatment.

It is said that after being admitted in the morning, at 5 pm, a hospital employee pushed him, who was in a wheelchair with worms in his legs, to the side of the road opposite the mortuary where he was rescued and admitted in the morning. The incident where the government hospital employee forcibly put the patient on the road without giving him any treatment caused controversy, but again the patient was admitted to the hospital for treatment with the help of volunteers.

Following the complaint, ‘Dean’ Rathinavelu investigated the doctors, post-graduate medical students, nurses and staff working in the 219th ward where the patient was admitted. Post-graduate medical students Drs B. Aviranth, M. Shyam, nurse Sumathi and medical staff M. Ravichandran were transferred from Madurai Government Hospital to Balarengapuram Government Hospital by ‘Dean’ Rathnavel.

‘Dean’ Rathinavelu has warned that strict action will be taken if negligence continues in treating the patients admitted to the hospital.
