London: Former all-rounder Paul Collingwood has been appointed interim coach of the England Men’s Cricket Team. Collingwood will be in charge of the three-Test West Indies tour. The 45-year-old assistant coach has been appointed to replace Chris Silverwood, who was ousted following a humiliating defeat in the Ashes 2021-22. Collingwood’s challenge is to save the England team from the Ashes tragedy.

The English squad for the West Indies tour will be announced tomorrow. Collingwood, who has played all three formats for England, has scored 4259 runs in 68 Tests, including 10 centuries and a double century, 5,092 runs in 197 ODIs with five centuries, and 203 runs in eight T20s. He also took 144 wickets in international cricket. Collingwood also has the distinction of being the best fielder. After the new mission, Collingwood spoke with Test captain Joe Root and vice-captain Ben Stokes. Collingwood led England to victory in the 2010 T20 World Cup.

Chris Silverwood has come under fire from all quarters after England lost the Ashes series 4-0. Former captain Michael Atherton has called for a complete overhaul of English management. This was followed by the descent of Chris Silverwood. It is also worth noting that the coach resigned the day after Ashley Giles, the managing director who appointed Silverwood, resigned. Interim managing director and former England captain Andrew Strauss has named former teammate Paul Collingwood as his interim coach.

When the English Test squad arrives in Antigua later this month, Paul Collingwood will join the team. England’s three-match Test series against the Windies begins on March 8. England recently lost the T20 series 3-2 to the Windies.
