The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, is on a friendly visit to Conakry on May 13. Coming from Senegal, President Kagame’s plane landed around noon on the tarmac of the Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry. Handshake, hug between Mamadi Doumbouya and Paul Kagame.
Performances of the national anthems, review of the troop, presentation of personalities: members of the National Committee of the Rally for Development (CNRD), ministers, presidents of national institutions, heads of diplomatic and consular missions, representatives of international institutions.
The Guinean government is basically talking about a friendly visit. Kagame’s communications service specifies: “President Paul Kagame arrived in Conakry for a visit, he was received by President Mamadi Doumbouya. The two heads of state held a tête-à-tête, discussing ways to strengthen the existing productive bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Guinea in various sectors, including digitalization, trade and investments. » For the moment, neither has communicated on the duration of the stay.
President Paul Kagame is on his second visit to Guinea, under the junta, the third meeting between the two presidents since the CNRD came to power in September 2021. In April 2023, the Rwandan president had carried out, in 48 hours, an official visit to strengthen friendship and cooperation in Guinea. Mamadi Doumbouya and Paul Kagame signed two memorandums of understanding: the first on the creation of the large joint cooperation commission between Conakry and Kigali; the second linked to the field of posts and telecommunications, information and communication technologies, the digitalization of the State and digital technology in general. On the sidelines of the visit, on April 17, 2023, the two presidents inaugurated the Kagbélen flyover, named Paul Kagamé Bridge.
Last January, Mamadi Doumbouya and his wife were in Rwanda, on a working and friendship visit. “The strengthening of the bonds of friendship and fraternity between our two peoples, as well as the continuation of the vital sectors of cooperation already identified last April during the visit of HE Kagame to Conakry, are the strong points of the trip, in the bilateral framework. Furthermore, we will address the positioning of a sovereign, self-determined and influential Africa on the international scene,” declared Mamadi Doumbouya. The latter inaugurated “the first embassy” of Guinea in Rwanda.
