Paulita Pappel, born in 1987, grew up in Spain and then fled to Berlin to express herself sexually. This is what it says in the blurb of her first book “Porn Positive. What pornography has to do with feminism. Self-determination and good sex,” published by Ullstein. Paulita Pappel does not approach these questions theoretically, because she worked as a porn actress under this pseudonym while studying literature. Today she is more behind the camera, is a porn producer and director who stages sexual fantasies in her porn. Since 2013 she has been one of the curators and organizers of the Berlin Porn Film Festival. She also developed the amateur porn site Lustery, where couples can share their sex videos, and founded the porn production company HardWerk.
Her book is about sex and the depiction of sex. It is a simple truth that many people enjoy looking at graphic depictions of lust, writes Paulita Pappel, even if society makes them taboo. Her book is a manifesto for a society that “allows everyone to live out their desires,” as the foreword says. And she is convinced that pornography can be useful, even a tool for emancipation. In any case, she wants to question the term porn along with the usual ideas and prejudices. The book premiere is on Thursday evening in the home port of Neukölln.
