It has been reported that the GST Commission has sent a final notice to music composer Ilayaraja asking him to pay Rs 1.87 crore in tax arrears.

Following this, a second summons has been issued to Ilayaraja for the second time on March 21 from the GST Investigation Department. Reiterating the same reasons, the Director General of GST Investigation is scheduled to appear at the Chennai Regional Office on March 28 at 11 am. Following this, the GST Commission has informed that a summons has been sent to Ilayaraja for the 3rd time to explain the tax evasion.

However, it has been reported that the authorities have sent a final notice to Ilayaraja as he did not appear in person for the 3 summons. It is alleged that Ilayaraja received the fee from a film production company along with the tax money but he did not pay that tax to the GST authority. It is noteworthy that Ilayaraja had registered that no tax was payable in the financial year 2013-2014 in this regard.
