The credit card is a practical means of payment that is widely used. But can you also use it to pay bills? Read about it here.
Shopping online, booking a flight, subscribing to a streaming service or reserving a rental car – you can do all of this in just a few minutes with a credit card. Once the retailer has approved the transaction, they can charge the corresponding amount to your credit card. Bills, on the other hand, are usually paid by bank transfer. But can these also be paid with a credit card?
The account is empty and you would like to pay the outstanding bill with your credit card. Whether this is possible depends on the issuing bank. Some banks offer you the option of transferring money from the credit card directly to the account of the bill recipient. A classic transfer via online banking is not possible; contact the bank for this. If the direct route is not possible, ask your bank to transfer the money from the credit card to your bank account. You can then make the transfer from there.
Consider: If your credit card limit has been exhausted, this method is not possible.
If you have an account with Santander Bank or are a customer of Sparkasse, you can make a direct bank transfer to the invoice recipient. With Hanseatic Bank, you can even conveniently withdraw money to your checking account using an app. The money is then available as credit on your bank account, from where it is then sent to the recipient. Please note that, depending on the credit institution, there may be costs for direct transfer to the recipient.
While the Sparkasse’s options are quite extensive, other banks refuse to allow direct transfers from credit cards to third-party accounts. Ask your bank what options are available. If you have your credit card with another bank and it is not possible to transfer it to your checking account, there is an alternative. Withdraw the required amount from the credit card at an ATM and then pay it back into your bank. You can then make the transfer from there.
