If there is a tax liability after filing Income Tax Return (ITR), then it has to be paid online. You can make online payment in many ways. These include internet banking, debit card, credit card etc. Be careful while using these options to make payment. Many taxpayers use credit cards to pay tax liability. Credit cards are used most of the time so that the amount paid can be converted into EMI and paid slowly. However, doing this is very heavy on the pocket. Because most of the banks issuing credit cards charge processing fees for payments like tax. According to the Income Tax website, there are many options available for paying income tax.

Internet Banking

You can also pay income tax through internet banking. However, this facility is only for those taxpayers who have an account in an authorized bank. The list of authorized banks is given on the website of the Income Tax Department. When you make the payment, the list of these banks is visible there. There is no additional charge for making payment through internet banking.

Debit Card

If you have a debit card of an authorized bank like Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India, then you can also pay income tax from it. There is no charge or fee for making payment through the debit card of these banks. Apart from these banks, if you have a debit card of any other bank, then use the Payment Gateway mode given in the payment option.

RTGS/NEFT

You can also pay income tax through RTGS or NEFT. You can use any bank for this. To use this option, you have to create a challan-cum-mandate form. After this, you can take a printout of it and go to any bank branch or make payment online. There is no charge on online payment. Banks charge some amount when you go to the branch. However, it is very less (up to Rs 25).

Payment Gateway

You can also pay tax using the payment gateway option. There are many payment options available in this mode. These include internet banking, debit card, credit card and UPI. You can make payment in whichever way you want. You may have to pay an additional fee for using this mode. How much this fee will be depends on which bank you are making the payment through.
