PayPal announces the dismissal of 2,000 employees, 7% of its workforce

The company US digital payment company PayPal announced on Tuesday the layoff of 2,000 employees7% of its global workforce, as part of a cost reduction plan.

In a statement, the company indicated that the chief executive, Dan Schulman, informed the workers on Tuesday that the layoffs will take place in the coming weeks, although he did not specify which units they will affect.

PayPal is the latest company to join the massive wave of layoffs in the technology sector in the USwhich encompasses big names like Microsoft and Amazon and affects tens of thousands of people.

In the note, PayPal points out the difficulties of the “Macroeconomic environment” and he acknowledges that his efforts to reduce costs have not been enough, so he has to make “tough decisions.”

Regarding the dismissed employees, which he describes as “Valued Colleagues and Friends”emphasizes that it will offer them “generous” economic packages and help in their professional “transitions”.

Following the news, near the last hour of the session on Wall Street, PayPal shares they rose 2.30%, reflecting a good reception from investors.

The listed company has lost 54% of its capitalization in the last year.
