Payyannur; CPM moves to persuade Payyannur former area secretary V Kunjikrishnan in the fund controversy. The party had appointed P Jayarajan for a discussion with Kunhikrishnan. The discussion at P Jayarajan’s office at Payyanur Khadi Center lasted only ten minutes. He also demanded strong action against TI Madhusoodhanan MLA.

P Jayarajan made the compromise on the instructions of the CPM Kannur district committee. Kunhikrishnan, who had complained that the martyr’s fund had been misappropriated and had informed the party with evidence, said it was unacceptable to remove him from his post. Payyannur MLA TI Madhusoodanan, who is facing charges of embezzlement, was demoted from the party district secretariat to the district committee, Kunhikrishnan said.

Following the disciplinary action against Kunhikrishnan, anger is raging in the party in Payyanur. There was a situation where people from the WhatsApp groups of party workers and supporters were beating the Left in droves. Many are now using Kunjikrishnan’s picture as a profile photo. The district leadership had initiated a conciliatory move by appointing P Jayarajan due to fears that the issue would seriously affect the party in Payyanur.

Martyr Dhanraj fund misappropriation: CPM fails to account for Rs 42 lakh misappropriated

The CPM swears that the party has not lost money in the Payyanur fund misappropriation but has not responded to the complaint with evidence that it has embezzled around Rs 1 crore in three funds. The CPI (M) is yet to launch an inquiry into the withdrawal of 42 lakh leaders of the Dhanraj Martyrs’ Fund, including a bank statement. The Congress has said it will move legally if TI Madhusoodhanan, who stole funds, does not resign from the MLA post.

CV Dhanraj, an active CPM activist in Payyanur, was killed on July 16, 2011. The party raised martyrs’ funds to pay off Dhanraj’s debts and pay for his house. Dhanraj received more than Rs 85 lakh due to his popularity among the party workers in Payyanur. Dhanraj’s family was given a house for Rs 25 lakh. 5 lakh each in the name of his wife and two children and Rs. 3 lakh in the name of his mother. The remaining Rs 42 lakh was fixed deposit in the joint account of the two leaders of Payyanur.

The investment was made without repaying Dhanraj’s loan of Rs 15 lakh. It was said that Dhanraj’s wife had a job in a co – operative and asked him to repay the loan. The interest of Rs 5 lakh received from the Rs 42 lakh fixed deposit was transferred to the personal accounts of the two leaders. 42 lakh was withdrawn without delay. V. Kunhikrishnan approached the district leadership with the evidence including the bank statement.

The accused explained that the money was used to fund the Area Committee office construction, but there was no evidence in the Area Committee’s minutes that such a decision had been made. Payyannur MLA TI Madhusoodhanan The CPM only explains that despite the allegations, there was a lack of vigilance and no loss of money. Then the CPM is not ready to answer the question of where is that Rs 42 lakh. Meanwhile, the Congress has demanded a legal inquiry into the financial mismanagement involving the MLA
