Vellapally Natesan welcomes timely amendment of the Constitution

Alappuzha: SNDP General Secretary Vellapally Natesan has said that the High Court order allowing the SNDP meeting to amend the bylaw is not a setback. The division bench of the high court yesterday upheld the Ernakulam district court’s order against concentrating power on the SNDP general secretary. Earlier, the High Court had stayed the order of the district court. This stay was moved by the Division Bench.

Representative voting will have to change

From the outset, the SNDP has concentrated its powers on the post of General Secretary. The High Court has initiated an intervention that will pave the way for a radical change in it. 23 years ago, five people approached the Ernakulam District Court questioning the existing constitution, such as representative voting and abuse of power as General Secretary. The petition was filed under the leadership of G Krishnamurthy, a retired IPS officer.

After ten years of deliberations, the court ruled in favor of amending the Constitution. It directed both parties to propose amendments to the Constitution and to hear final arguments accordingly. However, Vellapally Nation approached the High Court against this. In 2009 he won the stay from the single bench. Opponents moved the single bench of the high court against this. With this, Vellapalli Nadesan, who is currently controlling the organization, will have to co-operate with the constitutional amendment as directed by the district court.

The practice of single-vote representation for 200 people will have to be changed, and all members will have to be considered. The final decision will be taken in the district court after hearing the arguments in the impeachment motion filed by both the parties. Opposition parties have stated they will not run for office until the end of the current term of office in 2020.
