Kochi: Former Poonjar MLA PC George has been granted bail in a case related to his hate speech in Thiruvananthapuram. Despite the state government’s opposition, the high court granted bail to PC George on strict conditions. PC George, who is lodged in Poojappura Central Jail, has been released after the High Court granted him anticipatory bail in a case related to his hate speech at the Vennala temple in Ernakulam.

The court noted that there was no need to keep George in continuous custody. The court considered the petitioner’s application that he was a member of the Legislative Assembly for 33 years and 72 years. The court granted bail on the ground that he should not make public statements, should not repeat hate speech, should cooperate with the investigation and be subjected to scientific tests. The prosecution can approach the court in case of violation of bail conditions.

A bench of Justice P Gopinath granted anticipatory bail in the Vennala hate speech case and Justice Siyad Rahman considered the appeal against the revocation of bail in the Thiruvananthapuram case.
