“A few months ago I wrote this song. It came from the bottom of my heart and in recent weeks, unfortunately, the words of this text have once again become very relevant. Too many kids have lost their lives unjustly in this game of power, where in the end… no one wins. When I visited the juvenile prisons in Airola and Nisida, I saw something in the eyes of those kids that they had in common: after having made a mistake they would have given everything ‘Pe’ vula’ nata vote’. With this song I would like a loud and clear cry of hope to come: a hut where you laugh is better than a castle where you cry. The dream of a better life that is offered to us on social media is just an ephemeral illusion. Sometimes you feel better with little and I often forget that too.” With these words entrusted to social media, Rocco Hunt announces the surprise release on all digital platforms of a new song entitled “Pe’ vula’ nata votes” on Friday 29 September. With this song Rocco Hunt returns to the conscious rap of which he is one of the main exponents in Italy to deal with a topic that has always been very dear to him. Using all the strength of the Neapolitan language, the artist speaks directly to young people who, blinded by wrong models, give in to the lure of crime and too often, for trivial reasons, destroy the lives of other children and end up in juvenile prisons.

With powerful and emotional words, the Salerno rapper Rocco Hunt, born and raised in one of the urban suburbs at risk and the scene of this type of event, addresses these kids as an older brother who, at the crossroads, has chosen the path of sacrifice and of honesty and encourages them to build a life free from the dynamics of a senseless war where there are no winners.

In the song, in memory of all the young innocent victims who lost their lives, Annalisa Durante is mentioned, a 14-year-old girl killed by mistake in 2004 by a boy slightly older than her in a clash between clans in the streets of Forcella in Naples who wrote in his diary: “the streets scare me. They are full of muggings and robberies. Neighborhoods like ours are at risk… there are kids who throw themselves away and take drugs for no reason”.

Rocco Hunt wrote “Pe’ vula’ nata vote” months ago with the musician and producer Valerio Nazo, driven by the need to shine a light on a topic very dear to him and reach the new generations with an important message. The recent events where Francesco Pio Maimone lost his life, killed in the midst of the nightlife of Mergellina last March by a bullet fired by the scion of a well-known criminal family for trivial reasons, and Giovanbattista Cutolo, a 24-year-old musician, killed by blows gunshot at the end of August by a sixteen-year-old in Piazza Municipio in Naples over a dispute over a parking space, make this passage even more relevant and necessary today.
