(wS/fgs) wins 05/02/2023 | The need in Ukraine is unabated because of the Russian war of aggression. The Siegen peace group continues to organize aid transports with donations in kind to the crisis areas.
Spring is coming – for the people of Ukraine it can mean the difference between life and death. In the winter months, Russian attacks on residential buildings and other civilian facilities repeatedly led to interruptions in the energy supply, electricity and heating failed, and the cold became a life-threatening problem.
Life in crisis areas has not been easy since the beginning of the war more than 14 months ago, even with the beginning of spring. “But because of the high transport costs to Ukraine, we are now concentrating on other relief supplies that are urgently needed. Warm clothing no longer has the same high priority as in winter,” explains Dr. Tetiana Havlin, Chairwoman of the Siegen Peace Group.
The acceptance point for donations in kind in the CJD Siegen (Marienhütte 8, 57080 Siegen-Eiserfeld), which has been cooperating with the Siegen peace group since the beginning of the year, is therefore no longer accepting donations of clothing.
Instead, the peace group and the CJD are asking for the following donations in kind:
– Perishable foods such as canned goods, pasta, rice, flour
– Medical items such as bandages, medicines (e.g. painkillers and cold medicines), walking aids, wheelchairs
– Hygiene items for children and adults (e.g. diapers, soaps, monthly hygiene products, toothpaste)
– Power banks and flashlights
The Siegen Peace Group is a local initiative that has already sent 12 trucks and 7 Sprinters with relief supplies to Ukraine since February 2022. The aid transports are organized and coordinated by the three board members Dr. Tetiana Havlin, Dr. medical Wassilij Tscherleniak and Tetyana Pankovska, who are actively supported by Ukrainian and German volunteers.
The CJD Siegen is a provider of vocational training that supports young people and young adults with their integration into the labor market. Since January 2023, trainees in the CJD in the “warehouse” department have been collecting and managing donations in kind for Ukraine in cooperation with the Siegen peace group. Donations are always accepted on Wednesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at CJD Siegen, Marienhütte 8, 57080 Siegen-Eiserfeld.
